Why choose Hydroflux Utilities as your HydraSCALE Supplier?

Scaling affects mining and industrial processes, water and wastewater treatment plants as well as membrane systems. Significant economic and environmental costs are associated with process units running sub-optimally due to scale formation within pipelines, pumps, process equipment and membrane systems. By reducing scale formation, companies can enhance the efficiency and lifespan of their equipment, minimise downtime, lower maintenance costs, and decrease the consumption of energy and chemicals. Additionally, improved scaling control can lead to better water quality and a reduced environmental footprint, aligning industrial operations with environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

HydraSCALE FAQs

How do antiscalants work?

Antiscalants work by inhibiting the formation and deposition of scale on surfaces in membrane systems. They achieve this through several mechanisms: they disrupt the crystallisation process of scale-forming minerals, prevent the crystals from growing or agglomerating, and keep them in a suspended state so they can be carried away by the flow. This helps to maintain system efficiency and prolong equipment life by reducing scale buildup.

Are antiscalants a dangerous good?

Antiscalants are generally not classified as dangerous goods, but their safety depends on their specific chemical composition. Most antiscalants are formulated to be safe for use in various industrial applications, but handling guidelines should always be followed. Hydroflux Utilities can provide safety data sheets (SDS) on all of its products that outline any potential hazards, necessary precautions, and proper handling procedures.

How much antiscalant do you use?

The amount of antiscalant required depends on the specific application, the type of antiscalant, and the level of scale formation in your system. Generally, antiscalants are used in concentrations ranging from 1 to 10 parts per million (ppm) of the process streams. The optimal dosage is typically determined through testing, monitoring, and operation, starting with the manufacturer’s recommended dosage and adjusting as needed based on the scale control performance and system conditions.

What are antiscalants made of?

Common ingredients of antiscalants include organic polymers like polyacrylic acid and polymaleic acid, which inhibit crystal growth, and phosphonates such as amino-trimethylene phosphonic acid (ATMP) and hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid (HEDP), which disrupt scale crystal formation and keep scale-forming ions in solution. Carboxylates and polyaspartic acid, sequester scale-forming ions, while inorganic compounds like phosphoric acid help by dispersing or dissolving scale minerals. Hydroflux Utilities has a comprehensive range of antiscalants and will always select the most appropriate antiscalant based on the type of scale your system aims to control.

Do antiscalants effect the pH of the process stream?

While antiscalants can alter the pH, due to their low dose rates (usually <10mg/L), their impact on the pH is generally not significant.
